Cancellation Policy for Pikes Peak Writers Workshops, American Icon, and other Special Events

The purpose of this policy is to lay out a fair basis for handling registrant cancellations that does not require PPW to absorb a financial loss, but that also allows us to refund the maximum amount of money possible to the registrant. The following provisions accomplish that goal.

1) Registration and payment for all PPW workshops and special events that involve contracted food or venue costs will be required by one day prior to the date when the caterer/venue needs a firm headcount for payment calculation. This cancellation date will be publicized. If payment is not received prior to the event, the person is considered to have not registered even if he or she sent in a registration form.

2) If the attendee cancels prior to the publicized cancellation date as listed in 1), a full refund will be given.

3) If the attendee cancels after that date and prior to the workshop, a partial refund minus the committed cost for food and other nonrefundable items paid for by PPW will be given. If the attendee can provide a substitute attendee to take their place, a full refund will be given after receiving the registration and payment from the substitute.

4) If the attendee is a no show and does not call prior to or during the event to offer an excuse, then no refund will be given.

Write Brains and workshops may be rescheduled in the event of bad weather, or if a speaker is ill or otherwise unable to attend.

If a Write Brain has to be rescheduled, all people who signed up for the event will be notified either by phone or e-mail no later than 4:00 p.m. on the day of the Write Brain.  The Write Brain will either be rescheduled or moved to a chat-room forum.  This information will be posted to the PPW website on the day of the scheduled event.  Please know that in the event of a cancellation, every attempt will be made to move the Write Brain to the following Tuesday.

If a weekend workshop needs to be rescheduled, all people who signed up for the event will be notified either by phone or e-mail.  An announcement with the new date and time will appear on the PPW website as soon as possible. Every attempt will be made to reschedule the workshop for the following weekend.

If School District 11 has cancelled school or called for early release, any planned workshops will be rescheduled or moved to the chat room.

If the Colorado Springs Police Department has gone on cold reporting, any planned workshops will be rescheduled or moved to the chat room.

Write Brains

Write Brain sessions are monthy workshops, held the third Tuesday of each month. Topics from regional experts include the writing craft, marketing and promotion, creativity exercises, and much more.  Look at the details below for topics, speaker biographies, and more about upcoming and past presentations.

Write Brain sessions are free to members. Non-members may attend ONE Write Brain for free, additonal Write Brain sessions are $10.00 each.

Workshops

Learn more about the Workshop events listed in the calendar. Workshop events are normally whole-day events held on Saturday's several times each year. Special workshops, from a few hours to a full day in length may be available in relation to other special events. These might be pre-conference workshops, Youth Workshops, or writing related workshops for area non-profit organizations or schools. Workshop details include speaker biographies, detailed event outlines, registration links, easy-pay links, and more.

The special events you see listed on the calendar run a full gamut of writing and/or community related activities. Here you'll find information on Book Signings, ad hoc gatherings, fundraising events, youth program events and much more. Some of these are "members only" activities while most are also open to the public.

Open Critique is a PPW critique group that is open to anyone who wants to attend. Like a private critique group, you participate by bringing several pages of your writing for the other attendees to read and critique. Unlike a private group, Open Critique features a guest critiquer each month—someone with writing and critique-group experience. Participants learn critique group etiquette and methods, and gain valuable insight into their work. Those interested in forming critique groups of their own have the opportunity to meet other writers and, more importantly, work with them.

Youth Programs

A pilot youth program began in the spring of 2008 to encourage and excite young writers in the Pikes Peak Area. This program is still in the development stages - watch for news!

Community Outreach Programs

Out board of directors and Community Ambassador regularly participate in a number of community outreach activities throughout the year.
